Physiotherapy can make use of a number of treatment modalities to achieve patient harmony.
Conditions treated
Back and neck pain and dysfunction both acute and chronic
Arthritis (along with suitable home management advice)
Neurological conditions such as stroke rehabilitation. These are usually managed well by the NHS at first but more physio in later years can be helpful
Upper limb dysfunctions such as tennis elbow and 'frozen shoulder'
Foot and leg problems such as 'shin splints' and plantar fasciitis
Injury recovery including whiplash associated disorders
Rehabilitation after operations
Recurring headaches
Sports injuries and prevention
Modalities used
Manual therapies including massage, myofascial release, muscle energy techniques and Tui Na. Joint mobilisations are used if appropriate but not high velocity manipulations
Electrotherapy including combination of Interferential and ultrasound which is a useful diagnostic tool and the new ‘medi-wave’ which is especially good for injuries with swelling and muscle spasm
Therapeutic laser which speeds up tissue healing
Biomechanical assessment and advice on shoes or fitting of mouldable orthotics can prevent a lot of strain on joints both for runners and those with arthritis
